The Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs made a statement in support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine within that country‘s internationally recognized borders. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also states that Bulgaria does not recognize and condemns the illegal annexation of Crimea. The statement follows the call by Russia’s State Duma for Moscow to recognize the breakaway regions of Lugansk and Donetsk and the note verbale sent by the Ambassador of Ukraine to Bulgaria Vitaly Moskalenko.

"The Republic of Bulgaria condemns the aggressive actions of the Russian Federation which are leading to an unprecedented escalation of military tensions in Europe to the levels of the Cold War, and calls for de-escalation," the statement reads.

Tomorrow, Bulgaria’s Premier Kiril Petkov will attend a special meeting of the European Council to discuss the situation in Ukraine
