Firefighters and rescue workers organize protest in centre of Sofia

Firefighters and rescue workers from the firefighters’ trade union organized a protest in front of the Council of Ministers building to demand a 20% pay raise and clarity about the forthcoming reforms within the Ministry of the Interior.

“Tension has been brewing among my colleagues – especially in the structures of the Fire Safety and Civil Protection General Directorate and Directorate 112, as there are ideas to merge the two into a separate state agency,” said Ventsislav Stankov, chairman of the TU.

The protest will be followed by a procession through the central streets of Sofia, passing by the buildings of the National Assembly and the Ministry of Finance.
