NATO is stepping up its military presence along its eastern flank by deploying additional defensive land, marine and air forces, NATO’s Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said. He expressed hope that Russia would not attack a NATO member. "An attack on one NATO member would mean an attack on all of its members" Jens Stoltenberg further said.

At the request of Bulgaria and other NATO members from Eastern Europe, the North Atlantic Council agreed to begin talks under Article 4, providing for urgent consultations in the event of a threat to the territorial integrity or security of a NATO member. It also became clear that NATO troops will not be sent to Ukraine.
