"Whatever the background, whatever the pretext for the war in Ukraine, nothing can justify trampling on the country's national sovereignty, casualties, destruction and enormous suffering," Bulgarian President Rumen Radev said in Bucharest after meeting with Romanian counterpart Klaus Iohannis.

Radev added that the war near Bulgaria's borders was radically changing the security environment in the region. "The risks of escalating the conflict in the region are there," he said.
According to him, the crisis in Ukraine has highlighted the need for comprehensive connectivity between Romania and Bulgaria - infrastructure, transport, energy, digital, technological in terms of new fuel supply pipelines.

From Romania, Rumen Radev demanded a clear answer on whether MiG-29 fighters will be able to be serviced in Russia, as well as to investigate whether this can be done in another country. Otherwise, we risk leaving the skies over Bulgaria unguarded, he said.
