If Russia conquered the entire southern territory of Ukraine, including the Danube territories, there would be risks for Bulgaria, Gen. Subi Subev, former representative of Bulgaria in NATO, told the BNR.

He added that Russia's Black Sea Fleet dominance in the Black Sea was alarming. "With the activation of four more battalion battlegroups, including in Bulgaria, NATO has enhanced its forward presence from the Baltic to the Black Sea," Gen. Subi Subev said and predicted "harsher measures" if the war continued.

He does not rule out the possibility for the Alliance to decide for a permanent presence of larger formations in the eastern allies.

According to him, Bulgaria should get out of the trap it had fallen into by being one of the two NATO countries which refused to provide military aid to Ukraine.
