“116,000 Ukrainian refugees have entered Bulgaria since the start of the war and 54,000 of them have remained,” Kalina Konstantinova, Deputy Prime Minister for Good Governance said in an interview with bTV.
According to her, more than 30% of all refugees are children. “In view of the size of the wave we need to find as many places to accommodate them as we can, as soon as we can,” she said further, and added that everything possible is being done to avoid putting up tent camps for the people fleeing Ukraine. Kalina Konstantinova stated further that Ukrainian women are a high-risk factor for human trafficking, and special care should be taken of them. The accommodation of refugees in this country has so far cost the state 6.7 million Leva (EUR 3.4 million).
