Bulgaria will cover the health insurance expenses of refugees from Ukraine, MPs decided with amendments to the Health Insurance Act.

According to the amendments to the law, the maximum amount to be covered by the state is 54 million leva (27.61 million euro), and a European fund is to help with additional funds.

"The law doesn't specify that the measure applies only to refugees from Ukraine - it is for anyone seeking asylum in Bulgaria," Elin Dimitrov of We Continue the Change said.

In his words, currently only 19 thousand of the 133 thousand Ukrainians who entered the country are registered for asylum.
