The Supreme Judicial Council has postponed until May 4 the review of the proposal for early release of Bulgaria's Chief Prosecutor Ivan Geshev from his post, made by the Minister of Justice Nadezhda Yordanova, BTA reported.

The reason for the postponement are irregularities which the Minister of Justice Nadezhda Yordanova must remove within 7 days.

Before the media, Bulgaria's Minister of Justice Nadezhda Yordanova has clarified that the proposal of the caretaker Minister of Justice Yanaki Stoilov does not set out the specific circumstances that allegedly undermine the prestige of the judiciary.

Before the meeting, Minister Yordanova commented that it was high time "for Bulgaria to have a chief prosecutor who shares and upholds high moral standards and protects people's rights without violating them, and does not hide behind police violence."

For his part, Ivan Geshev reiterated that the allegations of the Minister of Justice were inaccurate and undermined the prestige of the judiciary and thus affected every Bulgarian citizen.
