Protests by road construction companies blocked major roadways throughout the country. In Sofia, traffic in front of parliament building and the Council of Ministers was temporarily blocked. The protesters chanted “Resign!” and “Pay us now!” as they demanded 100% of the payment for the work done in 2021.

At the beginning of today’s Council of Ministers’ meeting, Prime Minister Kiril Petkov stated that on 14 April, parliament would allow the Road Infrastructure Agency to pay out 50% of the money, or around EUR 300 million. The remainder of this money will only be paid out after the parliamentary committee reviews how many of the activities declared by the companies have actually been completed, the prime minister said.
