Parliament did not approve Lubomir Karimanski as Governor of the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB). He was the only candidate, proposed by the There is Such a People party – one of the four parties in the ruling coalition.
58 MPs voted in favour, 36 against and 84 abstained. Karimanski was supported only by the There is Such a People party, the opposition party Movement for Rights and Freedoms and one vote from GERB.
Prime Minister Kiril Petkov commented that it was not reasonable to hold a vote if there was no consensus around one person.
The chairman of the budget committee in parliament, Karimansky, said after the vote that he had learned a wise lesson "because it is not the control of money in Bulgaria, but knowledge that is an irreplaceable value".
