Today we mark the International Workers Day, also known as Labor Day. According to Dimitar Manolov, President of the Confederation of Labor Podkrepa, the war in Ukraine, inflation and the energy crisis are the biggest challenges for the Bulgarian society. “We cannot have incomes if this goes ahead”, said Dimitar Manolov. In his words, 136 years after the strike in the United States demanding an eight-hour workday, working hours and wages remain a major problem. In many sectors in Bulgaria, the workday exceeds 8 hours.

The labor union insists that the minimum monthly salary in the country covers the cost of living, which is EUR 613 a month after taxes, the reporter of the Bulgarian National Radio Maria Kostova informed.

The Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) is to mark the holiday with various initiatives under the motto "Decent Work in a Peaceful World". BSP leader Kornelia Ninova is expected to visit the town of Kardzhali (Southeastern Bulgaria) to attend a folk dance competition organized by female supporters of the socialist party.
