Ten EU countries - Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia and Romania - have urged the European Commission in a letter to reallocate its budget to provide more support for people fleeing the war in Ukraine, BTA reports, citing the DPA, which has become familiar with the content of the document.

The EU's Baltic and eastern European member states have taken in the largest number of war refugees from Ukraine, according to UNHCR. Poland has hosted 3 million of the 5.5 million refugees, while Romania, one of the EU's poorest members, has taken in 825,874 people and Bulgaria more than 100,000.
