We offer the Ministry of Defense to sign a contract with Polish companies for the maintenance of the MiG-29 so the aircraft may become airworthy by 2026, Bulgaria's Chief of Defense Adm. Emil Eftimov said for bTV.
We are also working on alternatives for second-hand fighters from the Netherlands to be used until the new F-16s arrive.
The admiral stressed that the construction of the two new patrol ships in Varna was running on schedule. The Minister of Defense has also approved a negotiating team that will talk in Italy about buying at least one submarine. The deal will depend on the balance between the state's financial capabilities and the needs of all branches of the military, Eftimov said.
