The Japanese company Meiji wants to invest more money in the manufacture of Bulgarian yogurt – at the laboratory of the state-owned dairy company LB Bulgaricum.

This was announced by Japan’s ambassador to this country Hiroshi Narahira who paid a visit to the Bulgarian enterprise, together with Bulgaria’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Kornelia Ninova. The enterprise keeps in stock over 1,000 strains of bacteria and more than 100 starter cultures for original Bulgarian yogurt. Much of the company’s modern equipment is Japanese, and many of its employees have undergone training in Japan. Ambassador Hiroshi Narahira stated that for people in Japan, yogurt is a symbol of Bulgaria, adding that it first entered Japan in 1970, when it was presented at the Osaka Expo.
