“Disinformation is a systemic problem in Bulgaria, and in other East European countries,” Minister of e-Government Bozhidar Bozhanov said for public service TV BNT. In his words, the most probable source of the disinformation campaigns is Russia.

At a working meeting with European commissioners and experts in Brussels, Minister Bozhanov urged the European Commission to compel Facebook, by way of the prospective Digital Services Act, to provide breakdowns, by countries, of the trolls spreading fake and manipulative news, and to automatically cut them off. This can be done by establishing control over the functioning of the online algorithms which automatically push fake news higher up, Bozhidar Bozhanov said.
