Bulgarians celebrate May 24, the Day of the Holy Brothers Cyril and Methodius, the Bulgarian alphabet, education and culture and Slavic literature with festive street marches and celebrations throughout the country. In Sofia, the holiday was celebrated with a big procession and a festive programme in front of the National Library bearing the name of Saints Cyril and Methodius.

On the occasion of 130 years since the writing of the song "Varvi, narode vazrodeni"  (March ahead, o revived people) by Stoyan Mihailovski, known as the "anthem of Bulgarian education", it was performed by students from many Sofia-based schools. At the invitation of the Sofia Municipality, citizens and guests of the capital joined the performance.

Thousands of pupils, teachers, students, cultural figures and citizens took part in the citywide festive procession in Haskovo. The municipality provided over 400 flags with letters and over 600 balloons, BNR Kardzhali reported. In Kardzhali, the procession was led by the student guard detachment and cheerleaders.

Over 7,000 people took part in a festive procession in Burgas. Under the applause of the citizens of Burgas, it passed through the central streets of the city, BNR Burgas reported.
