European integration aims to cut the ties with the historical past,” MEP Ilhan Kyuchyuk who is European Parliament rapporteur on North Macedonia said for the BNR. Europe has been finding it hard to comprehend the convoluted historical discussions because it would have to open the Pandora’s box of its own history, and that is something it does not want to do.

“But Europe knows a lot about human rights and freedoms. And it is fair to want Bulgarians in North Macedonia to be an inalienable part of the Macedonian constitution,” Kyuchyuk commented.

The formula for resolving the dispute with Skopje ought not to be the result only of the efforts of the coalition partners from the government in Sofia, they should reach out to the opposition as well because there is no consensus on the matter within the government, Ilhan Kyuchyuk stated.
