Draft law: Finance Minister is to head a new national security body

A new extraordinary body for the protection of Bulgaria's national security is to be created, with Finance Minister Assen Vassilev is at the helm.

The new body will be established by a special Act on measures for the prevention and protection of national security from risks to the country's economic and financial system.

It envisage creating national lists of persons and related parties who are known to criminally use high-tech products, commit abuse and fraud in cyberspace, engage in unregulated activities of investment intermediaries, attempt to transfer funds of unknown origin through Bulgarian banks or misuse EU funds.

Inclusion in one of the lists will be grounds for an investigation under the Counter-Corruption and Unlawfully Acquired Assets Forfeiture Act.

Providing information to the new authority cannot be refused on grounds of banking, commercial, state or official secrecy. So far, the draft law does not have the approval of the coalition partners.
