Bulgaria expects the Bulgarians in the Republic of North Macedonia to be included, on a par with the other peoples, in the Constitution of the country, President Rumen Radev stated in a telephone conversation with Sir Stuart Peach, the UK’s Special Envoy to the Western Balkans.

President Radev stated that observance of the rights of Macedonian Bulgarians is a crucial precondition for the launch of North Macedonia’s EU accession negotiations. Rumen Radev and Sir Stuart Peach agreed that the progress of the Western Balkans in the process of European integration is of strategic significance for the security and stability of the region. The two also discussed the ways to overcome the emerging food crisis caused by the blocking of the export of grain from Ukraine. The Special Envoy to the Western Balkans of the UK expressed his country’s readiness to implement joint projects in the sphere of energy, connected with the diversification of energy supplies in the region.
