During the traditional Rose Festival in Karlovo, the Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Ivan Ivanov, stressed that the centuries-old traditions of growing roses in Bulgaria must be preserved.

Minister Ivanov pointed out that the Bulgarian oil-bearing rose has a unique traditional aroma and is known in different parts of the world. That is why the Bulgarian rose oil is highly valued on the international markets and deservedly gives Bulgaria the name "the country of roses".

There are now over 2,800 farmers growing Rosa Damascena and Rosa Alba varieties in Bulgaria currently, cultivating an area of 4,500 ha and a total production of 14,000-15,000 tonnes of rose petals.

Due to the negative effects of the pandemic and the crisis in the sector, Bulgarian rose growers are expected to receive 2.5m euros in financial support by mid-June.
