There is a danger of an inflationary spiral, Bulgarian National Bank's Deputy Governor Kalin Hristov warned at a parliamentary roundtable on Introducing the single European currency in Bulgaria. In 2021, we already had widespread inflation spreading to labour prices, Hristov said.

National Statistical Institute President Sergey Tsvetarski warned that Bulgaria does not meet the price stability convergence criterion for joining the Euro zone, under which the candidate's inflation rate cannot be higher than 1.5% above the rate of the three best-performing member states.

If we fail to conta‌in this inflation shock that our economy is suffering, it will be critical for Bulgaria's eurozone accession, said Lyubomir Karimanski, chairman of the parliamentary committee on budget and finance.
