Deputy Prime Minister Kalina Konstantinova apologised to Ukrainian refugees in parliament for her video address in which she announced the suspension of the plan to relocate them from hotels on the coast to state facilities in the interior of the country.
She said that Bulgaria provided the best quality care to those fleeing the war, while in other EU countries they were accommodated in tent camps and buffer centres.
Speaking to BNR, volunteer Adelina Banakieva, winner of the National Network for Children's Golden Apple Award for her work caring for Ukrainian children and people with disabilities, criticised the government's actions towards refugees.
"Catering to lobbying interests during a dead season for tourism is not government intervention in helping refugees. It is state intervention to help our businesses. Nothing wrong with that, but let's call a spade a spade," she said.
