Road construction and repair companies threaten to halt road maintenance

“Road construction companies are hoping, with the update of the budget, to receive EUR 1 billion due from the state for road repair and maintenance work they have performed. They will wait for the deadline on 30 June, the date by which parliament decided to carry out payment,” Stefan Chaikov, chair of the board of the Bulgarian Branch Chamber Roads declared. “If that doesn’t happen, as of 1 July we shall halt road repairs.”

“I urge the companies not to abandon the sites and to continue the repair work because abandoning roads means jeopardizing the safety of the people traveling on the roads of Bulgaria,” Grozdan Karadjov, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Regional Development, who has tendered his resignation, told reporters in Plovdiv.
