On June 27, 1927, the French company CIDNA, whose direct successor is AIR France, began the construction of Burgas Airport. The airport is emblematic for Bulgarian aviation.

On June 29, 1947 it started to operate the flights Sofia - Burgas. The route is the first regular passenger line in Bulgaria.
Burgas Airport is unique with the largest number of sunny days in all of Europe, which is why it is called "The sunniest airport on the Black Sea coast".

It has the fourth longest runway in the Balkans - 3200 m and is an important transport hub in Southeast Europe with many passenger and cargo flights.

Today, the airport operates lines to 77 destinations in 26 countries. The most successful year in terms of the number of passengers served was 2018, when 3,255,568 passengers passed from there.
