On June 29, the Danubian countries mark Danube Day for the 19th consecutive year. On this date in 1994 the Danube River Protection Convention was signed in Sofia. Ten years later, the celebration of Danube Day began, with the aim of drawing public attention to the importance of the resources of Europe's second longest river for the regions.
Countries organize many initiatives dedicated to the protection of the river and its tributaries. This year, under the motto "Discover the Danube", celebrations in the Bulgarian cities along the river, including Vidin, Ruse, Belene, Kozloduy and Silistra are held. There are a number of festivals, dedicated to the protection of the river.
