As of July 1, 2022, there are 4,614 fully electric passenger cars in Bulgaria, according to data from the Ministry of the Interior, BTA reports.

There is a significantly higher number of hybrid passenger cars which use in addition to electricity also conventional fuel - 25,467, of which those in the petrol-electricity variant prevail - 21,842.

A year earlier, the number of fully electric passenger cars in Bulgaria was 2,537, and hybrid cars amounted to 16,116, i.e. the number of all-electric passenger cars increased by almost 82% and оф hybrids - by 58%.

The main problem is the lack of enough charging stations in Bulgaria, says Rumen Ivanov, owner of an electric car from Razgrad. According to him, the procedure for building them is cumbersome, which makes it difficult and discourages people to buy electric cars.
