According to Eurostat, Bulgaria is first in the EU in terms of industrial production growth with 20.2%. "This became possible because thefts were stopped and an end was put to racketeering and to the extortion of companies," Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Kornelia Ninova said. She reported historical export growth of 38.8%.

According to experts, the growth was mainly due to the record-high export of defense products to Ukraine, BGNES reports. The National Statistical Institute commented that this was an expected result of inflation. In May 2022, total Bulgarian exports grew on an annual basis by 60.7% to 4.2 billion euros, while total imports grew by 49.3% to 4.6 billion euros.
