Sofia-Skopje protocol paves the way for opening the accession negotiations

The Foreign Ministers of Bulgaria and North Macedonia, Teodora Genchovska and Bujar Osmani, signed in Sofia a protocol of the meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission under Art. 12 of the Treaty of Friendship, Good Neighbourliness and Cooperation. This is the second protocol signed between the two countries. The first one was signed in 2019. Since then, the committee has not held any meetings.

After the signing, Bulgaria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Teodora Genchovska said that there had been progress in all five spheres. She expressed hope that the agreements would be transferred from paper to practice.

According to North Macedonia’s Foreign Minister Bujar Osmani, Sofia and Skopje are opening a new chapter in their bilateral relations. Bujar Osmani added that North Macedonia was counting on Bulgaria’s support.
