Bulgaria has negotiated compensations for the delay in the delivery of F-16 fighter jets, outgoing Minister of Defense Dragomir Zakov said during a hearing at the National Assembly Committee on Defense, the BNT reports. In his words, there are two types of compensations. USD 25 million will be allocated to Bulgaria in the form of additional aid for the purchase of weapons. Bulgaria will also receive USD 9.5 million to train Bulgarian pilots.

Bulgaria has to decide by November 1 whether to accept the proposed compensation amounting to a total of USD 34 million and so to confirm the second order of F-16 fighter aircraft, Minister Zakov said further.

“In case we do not accept the conditions reached, we can say that we are cancelling the F-16 project for Bulgaria", Dragomir Zakov said.
