Bulgargaz is seeking a rise in the price of natural gas, and is proposing EUR 152 per MWh for August, the gas company writes on its website. This means it is proposing a price hike of around 60% compared to July when it was EUR 95 per MWh.
The reason the state-run company is citing for this dramatic price rise is the increase in the buying price of natural gas. By way of comparison, prices on the European gas supply markets in August 2022 are in excess of EUR 171 per MWh, the company says. The Energy and Water Regulatory Commission is to set a date for a public discussion of the price hike proposed by Bulgargaz.
“We cannot rule out some gas deliveries from Russia. There are Russian gas deliveries even now – via other Russian companies or subsidiary companies,” Ilian Vassilev, former ambassador of Bulgaria to Russia (2000-2006) commented for the BNR.
