Bulgaria reported record GDP last year

Bulgaria's gross domestic product in 2021 has reached a record €68 billion, rising by 3.6% with inflation at 3.3%, BNR's Natalia Ganchovska reports, quoting the annual edition of the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry "Bulgaria in figures".

Inflation rate for 2022 is expected to reach a yearly level of over 12%. The unemployment rate is relatively low, though not as low as the pre-pandemic rate of 4.2% in 2019. 

With supply chains restored, Bulgaria is seeing record exports in 2021 of €35bn, or 24% growth, with Germany, Romania, Italy, Greece and Turkey the leading trading partners. 

Average wages continue to rise, reaching €782 in 2021 and €814 in the first quarter of 2022.
