Bulgaria is among the 16 countries in the European Union where the monthly energy bill (for keeping the home warm and lit) exceeds the minimum wage, according to data from the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC).
The organisation estimates that in July this year, the cost of energy in the country averaged €428 against a minimum income of €363. Thus, it turns out that a minimum wage earner in this country has to work 36 days to cover his monthly bill.
The average annual wage in this country is €7.602, according to ETUC figures.
By July this year the cost of gas and electricity had risen by 38% across Europe compared to last year and the cost keeps rising.
