Bulgarian Agriculture Minister: Wheat from Ukraine causes serious imbalance in domestic markets

Wheat is produced in very large quantities in Bulgaria in compliance with all European environmental parameters. Although Bulgaria is a friendly country to Ukraine, the grain coming from there is not produced to the same standard and is seriously destabilising domestic markets both here and in other countries close to Ukraine's borders, creating unfair competition. This is what Bulgarian minister Yavor Gechev said during the meeting of the ministers of agriculture of the Visegrad Group countries in the Slovak town of Pezinok.

He noted that there is already great tension among Bulgarian farmers. "So far, the state has pursued the right policy, expressing support for Ukraine, but the European Commission must intervene in a timely manner to solve the problem," Agriculture Minister Gechev said. He urged the Visegrad Group to come up with a unified position on the issue so that the European Commission accepts its arguments.
