Taxi drivers are planning a protest, after a taxi driver was killed in Sofia last night in a fight with a man with a criminal record. After the incident taxi drivers organized a protest in front of the 3rd regional police station, and then went on to block traffic at a crucial Sofia intersection – Eagles’ Bridge – until morning.

Krassimir Tsvetkov, chairman of the national taxi trade union said, for the BNR, that they will monitor closely what the prosecutor’s office will do regarding the killing, and are contemplating future action. The trade union is demanding amendments to the law. They also want panic buttons for their drivers, as well as video recorders and a direct line to the emergency number 112.
