Ukrainian PM Denys Shmyhal warns of another "migration tsunami" if Russia continues attacks on civilian infrastructure

Russia has launched new strikes on Ukraine's energy infrastructure. According to President Volodymyr Zelensky, “the attacks were on a very wide scale”. More than 1.5 million households were left without electricity. Almost a third of Ukraine’s power stations and other energy generating facilities have been destroyed. Cherkasy region southeast of Kiev and the western Khmelnitsky region were affected in the latest attacks. Air strikes and power outages were also reported from Odessa in the south to Rivne and Lutsk in the northwest. "Most of the Russian missiles and drones were being shot down and such strikes will not stop a Ukrainian military advance", Ukrainian President Zelensky said.

Ukrainian Premier Denys Shmyhal warned of another migration tsunami if Russia continued its attacks on his country’s civilian infrastructure. “Russia wants to plunge Ukraine into a cold winter when many people could literally freeze to death. This could lead to a planned humanitarian catastrophe, the likes of which Europe has not seen since World War 2”, Denys Schmyhal said an in interview for Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.

On October 24, Denys Schmyhal will participate at the German-Ukrainian Business Forum in Berlin where he will meet with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. Denys Schmyhal called on Germany to deliver new ammunition to Ukraine in the coming days which would enable his country to repel Russian air strikes. According to Ukraine’s Prime Minister, the damage caused by Russian attacks amounts to more than $750 billion. Meanwhile, USD 300-500 billion worth of Russian assets have been frozen.
