The true beginning of North Macedonia's negotiations with the EU will be given when the Bulgarians are recorded as a state-creating nation in the country's constitution, Vice President Iliana Iotova told the bilingual Macedonian TV channel Alsat. "Until this condition is fulfilled, in practice there can be no step forward", Iotova said and emphasized that Bulgaria expects from Skopje an acceleration of the process and the work of the joint historical commission.

"We, here in the Balkans, have a common future and this is our European future, and everything else can and should be resolved", Iotova pointed out. The vice-president expressed her satisfaction that the North Macedonian state has distanced itself from the opening of the private Macedonian club in Bulgaria's town of Blagoevgrad.

Iotova also congratulated the politicians in North Macedonia who condemned the arson of the Bulgarian cultural club "Ivan Mihaylov" in Bitola, and the attacks against other cultural clubs. Iotova expressed hope that those responsible for these acts would soon be punished.
