17 months after the tragic accident with the MiG-29 jet of the Bulgarian Air Force, which happened near Shabla and led to the death of Major Valentin Terziev, the Sofia District Military Prosecutor's Office raised charges against Metodi Orlov, the deputy commander of flight training at the "Graf Ignatievo" air base. The charge is for causing death by negligent conduct of a tactical exercise.
According to the prosecutor's office, due to the high speed of falling of a luminous target and the descent of the MiG-29 aircraft below the minimum height of 4000 meters, Orlov had to prohibit the pilot from firing a missile, since he did not have enough time to safely exit the attack.
Orlov will also be held responsible for causing damage to the Ministry of Defense in the amount of about 5 million euros as a result of the crash.
