Ukrainian troops have recaptured 41 mine-strewn villages in southern Ukraine, abandoned by Russian forces, President Volodymyr Zelensky announced in his evening video address. It comes a day after Moscow announced its withdrawal from the strategic southern city of Kherson. So far, however, there is no evidence of a mass exodus from the city. "Ukrainian flags that are returning to their rightful place within the framework of the ongoing defense operation are already dozens. The enemy is not going away, and the Ukrainians are chasing the occupiers at a high price," said the Ukrainian president.

The withdrawal of Russian occupation forces from Kherson will continue for at least a week, Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov told Reuters. According to him, before the announced retreat to the western bank of the Dnieper, the Russian forces in the Kherson region numbered 40,000 people, and some of them are still in the regional center. According to the minister, it is not easy to predict the actions of the Russians, but in all probability the intensity of the fighting will decrease during the winter and both sides will use the cold weather to regroup. However, Ukrainian officials warn that Russia's maneuver may be a trap.

Ukraine has 1 million men to defend 2,500 km of borders with Belarus, Russia and the line of contact with the Russians in the territories they occupy.

The White House has announced a new package of military aid to Ukraine worth 400 million dollars, Reuters reported. The package includes air defense systems, including missiles for the Hawk anti-aircraft system, as well as four American Avenger air defense systems equipped with Stinger missiles, National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said. The total value of weapons and equipment provided by the US to Ukraine since the start of the war has exceeded $18.6 billion.
