The international initiative Movember, or the so-called Moustache Month, is becoming increasingly popular in Bulgaria, BTA notes. The name comes from the Australian colloquial word for moustache - "Mo", combined with "November".

The idea of the campaign is to draw attention to prostate cancer and other malignancies in men. Among the men in the city who regularly visit barbershops to groom their beards or moustaches, there are some who specifically grow moustache in November for the initiative, hairdressers in the capital said. The international initiative, which in recent years has been organized in Bulgaria (mustak.eu), also involves hospitals with free check-ups.

Every year, nearly five thousand men in the country are diagnosed with prostate cancer, according to the Bulgarian Oncological Scientific Society. In 2020, prostate cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer in Bulgaria.
