Bulgarian President and Czech PM discuss Bulgaria’s accession to the Schengen area

Bulgarian President Rumen Radev held a telephone conversation with the Prime Minister of Czechia Petr Fiala.  

Czechia is in the Presidency of the Council of the EU until 2022, with Prague designating the enlargement of the Schengen area as one of the priorities of its Presidency. In the course of their conversation, PM Fiala reaffirmed Czechia’s support for Bulgaria, Romania and Croatia and their joining Schengen without further delay.

President Radev welcomed the constructive approach of the Czech Presidency, and stated he expected this to take place by the end of the year. The findings of the recent inspections, conducted at the invitation of Bulgaria and Romania, were positive, confirming their readiness to join the Schengen area, the Bulgarian President said.
