Bulgaria will send infantry weaponry to Ukraine, Defence Minister says

“What we are sending is in the top three of Ukraine’s priorities of the weaponry it is asking of us,” Minister of Defence in the caretaker government Dimitar Stoyanov stated in an interview with bTV. “The lists have been coordinated with the Ukrainian side, and I think our counterparts from Ukraine will be pleased,” he said. Minister Stoyanov added that the list of armaments to be sent to Ukraine was submitted to parliament on 1 December and that it is up to the MPs to make the final decision. The deliveries will, in no way, be damaging to the Bulgarian army. The lists do not include S-300 missile systems or aircraft, they include primarily infantry weaponry, Dimitar Stoyanov said.

In Sofia, the “Mothers against the war” movement are to submit a petition to parliament, the government and the presidency to demand that Bulgaria initiate peace talks for an end to the war in Ukraine, and that the country not get involved in the war by sending weapons or military personnel. The signatories include well-known names of public figures upholding left-wing positions.

There is no prospect of a negotiated end to the war in Ukraine, Irina Scherbakova, said co-founder of the Nobel Peace Prize-winning Russian human rights organization Memorial. “I am absolutely convinced that there is not a diplomatic solution with Putin's regime, so long as it is still there,” she stated in Hamburg, Germany, where she was awarded the Marion Dönhoff Prize for her human rights work. “The solution that there will now be is a military one,” she stated.

The USD 60 per barrel price cap on trade in Russian oil by the EU and the G-7 comes into effect on 5 December. The figure will be updated every month depending on the market indicators. Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak stated that Russia would not accept the price cap even if it has to reduce production. Meanwhile, the European Commission informed the EU member countries of the latest 9th package of sanctions against Russia. They are to be endorsed on 12 December and target 180 Russian companies, banks, media outlets and tech companies.
