The European Commission expects the Bulgarian authorities to conduct a full investigation into the case of the Syrian man shot at the border with Turkey, spokesperson Anita Hipper said.
No shots were fired by Bulgarian officers at a group of illegal migrants who were on Turkish territory on October 3, according to a check by the Bulgarian Ministry of Interior. The investigation is related to a video that was shown by television channel "Sky News". The video was filmed by migrants, in which shouting can be heard and it is said that a Syrian citizen was injured.
The Bulgarian Ministry of Interior said that 65 persons tried to cross the border that day. Migrants were hostile and aggressive and threw stones and burning objects at the police officers. A Bulgarian policeman was injured and a police car was damaged. The Turkish authorities have been informed about the case. On November 2, a meeting of the Bulgarian-Turkish border commission was held on the incident.
