The decision for Bulgaria's Schengen bid is once again a political one, Vice President Iliana Iotova said in the University of Veliko Tarnovo on the occasion of the expected veto of the Netherlands and Austria on Bulgaria's entry into Schengen. According to her, the situation is reminiscent of the first rejection in 2011, "when Bulgaria made a big mistake by allowing the technical criteria for our acceptance to be replaced by political ones."
The Vice President pointed out that Bulgaria's efforts for Schengen membership will continue at all levels and added that the country should not give a reason for double standards to be applied to it.
According to Iliana Iotova, Bulgaria is heading for early elections, especially after the first political force GERB-SDS chose a formula for expert cabinet.
