NATO chief Stoltenberg: Putin has not given up on his overall goal of controlling Ukraine

We should not underestimate Russia as it is planning a long war, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg warned. Therefore, NATO allies should continue to send weapons to Kyiv until Vladimir Putin realizes that he cannot win on the battlefield, France Press quoted him as saying. According to Stoltenberg, the Russian president has not given up on his overall goal of controlling Ukraine or a large part of it.

Josep Borrell, the European Union's foreign policy and security chief, described the Russian shelling of Ukraine as "war crimes and barbaric acts." Yesterday, Russia carried out its most massive missile attack on the country's energy infrastructure since the beginning of the invasion, killing at least four people and damaging nine energy facilities. Nearly 40 rockets were fired at Kyiv alone, most of which were shot down by Ukrainian air defenses. There were power outages across the country and many residents of the capital took shelter in subway stations, Reuters reported. "These cruel, inhumane attacks aim to increase human suffering and deprive Ukrainian people, but also hospitals, emergency services and other critical services of electricity, heating and water. Those responsible will be held accountable," Josep Borrell also said, pointing out that the EU and its partners will increase their efforts to provide emergency assistance for the restoration of electricity and heating in Ukraine.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed the firm position that Ukraine has sufficient determination to respond to Russian attacks. According to him, Moscow still had enough missiles for several larger strikes, but this would not change the balance of power in the war. Zelensky confirmed that his country's air defenses shot down 60 Russian missiles for a day, but some rockets managed to hit civilian targets - mostly energy and heating supply facilities. According to Ukrainian Commander-in-Chief Valerii Zaluzhnyi, Russia fired a total of 76 missiles for a day.
