Turkey takes measures to better protect the border with Bulgaria from migrants

Migration processes and refugee pressure were at the centre of the meeting on Sunday (18 December) between Interior Minister Ivan Demerdzhiev and his Turkish counterpart Suleyman Soylu, Demerdzhiev told journalists. 

"We have agreed with the Turkish authorities that they should be even more actively involved in preventing large groups of migrants from gathering at the border," the minister said. He pointed out that the Turkish side has now deployed gendarmerie and military along the border at various strategic locations. 

There is an effect of these actions already and the pressure on our border guards is significantly reduced, Demerdzhiev said.
