People have been queuing up throughout the night - since 8 PM on 2 January – in front of the main entrance of the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB), to buy a commemorative coin marking 175 years since the birth of revolutionary poet Hristo Botev. Many of the people waiting to buy the coin came from different parts of the country. Natural or legal persons can only buy one coin each, and only in person. This is the first commemorative coin for 2023 from the “Bulgarian National Revival” series. The silver coin has a nominal value of 10 Leva (EUR 5.11) and a selling price of 114 Leva (EUR 58.3).

The BNB notes that Hristo Botev is depicted on Bulgarian commemorative coins as well as banknotes. There are more than 120 monuments in Bulgaria and around the world dedicated to him – from Argentina, through France and Austria, to Turkey, Romania and Russia. Towns and villages, mountain peaks, streets and boulevards, schools and community culture clubs throughout the country have been named after him.
