The first baby born in Norway in 2023 is Bulgarian and is called Amaya. The baby girl was born in Oslo, Nova TV reports. Amaya was declared the first baby of the year, alongside a baby boy born in the very same minute in Bergen.
The name Amaya means happiness, the father Kaloyan explains. He has been living in Norway since 2009, where he emigrated to join his parents. “It’s a different standard here. I want the child to grow up here, but also to go and visit her relatives in Bulgaria,” he said.
As baby of the year, Amaya will get a visit from the mayor of Oslo, and will receive a one-year supply of diapers free, as well as the right to one free year of kindergarten.
