Four people have been charged as part of the investigation into the cryptocurrency platform Nexo, said the Director of the National Investigation Service Borislav Sarafov. They are charged with leading and participating in an organised crime group related money laundering, tax crimes, computer fraud and unlicensed banking activity in Bulgaria and abroad. The group has been active since the beginning of 2018 and has developed its activity on the territory of Bulgaria, Great Britain, Northern Ireland, Switzerland and the Cayman Islands.

The Prosecutor's Office has testimony that six months ago, representatives of the cryptocurrency platform Nexo participated in a meeting at the Ministry of Finance with other companies involved in cryptocurrency, said the Spokesperson of the Prosecutor's Office, Siika Mileva. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss possibilities for the implementation of the cryptocurrency in the BORICA system.

Later, the press centre of "We Continue the Change" sent a press release to the media regarding the information that former Finance Minister Asen Vassilev had met with representatives of the company. "Suggestions by the prosecution that some secret meeting was held at the Ministry of Finance where companies dealing with cryptocurrency discussed with Minister Vassilev how to make payments in cryptocurrency through the Borika system do not correspond to the facts," the document reads.

The company also rejected the prosecution's accusations that Nexo's platform was being used for money laundering, terrorism, sanctions evasion, financial and tax crimes, and vowed to sue for hundreds of millions.
