Fishermen from the town of Veliko Tarnovo (Central North Bulgaria) protested against investment plans related to the construction of floating photovoltaic plants at the nearby dams. Protesters also supported their colleagues in Montana (Northwestern Bulgaria) who protest against the construction of a floating photovoltaic plant at Ogosta Dam.
"This is political and investment madness. Ultimately, we will lose our dams if such an investment is carried out," said Hristo Hristov who organized the protest in Veliko Tarnovo. Anglers expressed their concern that the floating photovoltaic plants endanger water and fish stocks.
"If a photovoltaic park is built at Ogosta Dam, it will not occupy the whole area and will not hinder economic and tourist activities, or fishing in the area" said caretaker Minister of Economy Nikola Stoyanov, noting that there is no final decision yet about the construction of the photovoltaic park.
