Strange shadows provoke viewers of the new Bulgarian film January

The film is already shown in theatres in Bulgaria, a screening in Vienna is forthcoming

"Two men and a crow trapped in a snowstorm at the end of the world try to unravel a mystery as it slowly consumes them..."‎

From January 20, the new Bulgarian film "January" is in theatres across the country. It is based on the play of the same name by Yordan Radichkov - the Bulgarian writer, twice nominated for the Nobel Prize for Literature, whose works have been translated into over 35 languages. ‎

The film is a co-production between Bulgaria, Portugal and Luxembourg and is the feature film debut for director Andrey Paunov, known by the Bulgarian audience for his remarkable documentary stories. Among his most popular titles are "Georgi and the Butterflies", "The Mosquito Problem and other stories", "Walking on Water" for the artist Christo Javacheff and others. ‎

The film "January" starts its meetings with the audience precisely in the first month of the year, which we call "Radichkov's month" not by accident. January is also the month of Bulgarian cinema, as it celebrates its birthday on January 13. ‎
Andrey Paunov himself says about his new work that he has put in it what scares each of us - "fear of the unexpected, tension from the fact that life is deeper, bigger and more complex than we are prepared for, horror of the evil that may be lurking at every step, cold, darkness, the shadows in each of us, which we always hope we will never face." ‎

On January 28, leading actir Samuel Finzi, Andrey Paunov and producer Vanya Raynova will present the film in Vienna. The screening will be at METRO ‎Kinokulturhaus at 3:30 p.m.‎
